For Eyes Optometrist: Giving Back to the Perth Optometry Industry through Education
At For Eyes Optometrist, we recognise the importance of contributing to the growth and advancement of the optical industry. Our dedication is demonstrated through the training, supervision, and mentoring of future optometrists.
Teaching clinical skills at the University of Western Australia with Sinead Denny
Sinead Denny, a highly experienced optometrist at For Eyes Optometrist, is passionate about sharing her expertise with second-year students in the Doctor of Optometry program at The University of Western Australia.
Under her guidance, students receive hands-on mentoring in a range of clinical skills, including binocular vision assessment, anterior and posterior eye examination, colour vision testing, and ocular pathology.
Their learning is further enriched through real-world case scenarios designed to develop their communication, diagnostic, and patient management capabilities.
Introducing optometry practice models with Clare Rossiter
Clare Rossiter, a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years of experience in the optical industry, also plays a key role in supporting the Doctor of Optometry program.
For the past three years, she has delivered lectures to first-year students, providing an overview of the optometry landscape in Australia.
Her insights cover the spectrum of optometry practice models, from large corporate and franchise models to independently owned practices, highlighting differences in service delivery, access to advanced diagnostic equipment, consultation time allocation, and billing procedures.
Offering students hands-on exposure to specialised optometric care
In addition, For Eyes Optometrist regularly hosts optometry students for placements of up to six weeks.
These placements offer exposure to specialised services rarely encountered in general practice settings, including paediatric optometry, complex contact lens fittings such as Orthokeratology, dry eye treatment, and neuro-optometry.
Given the limited availability of practices offering such specialised care and equipment, these opportunities are highly valuable to students. We are especially appreciative of our patients, who graciously allow students to observe and learn from their consultations.
Supporting Karega Gibbs’ path into optometry
We are also proud to acknowledge Karega Gibbs, a current student who is due to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree at The University of Western Australia this year.
Karega joined our practice over three years ago, demonstrating unwavering commitment and enthusiasm for the profession from the outset.
Long before her formal admission into the optometry program, she was resolute in her career aspirations, declaring, “There is no other option for me—I will be an optometrist.”
Having graduated with distinction from the Bachelor of Biomedical Science program at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Karega had many career paths available to her. However, her passion for optometry remains clear and unwavering.
At For Eyes Optometrist, we are proud of our service and support of the next generation of optometrists and remain dedicated to fostering clinical excellence and professional growth within our industry.
