DISRUPTIVE BLUE LIGHT IS EVERYWHERE

Indoors    –   Blue- violet light is emitted by artificial lighting and digital devices

Outdoors  –  Blue- violet light is emitted by the sun much like UV Rays

In our modern world, more and more time is being spent by people indoors being subjected to artificial light sources. It is estimated that by 2020, 70% of all our indoor lighting will be provided by LED’s. A large number of the population spend up to 10 hours per day on screen based activity

There are several ways to combat these harmful rays. A recent breakthrough is the use of a SMART BLUE FILTER. This sophisticated technology is embedded in the lens material and in conjunction with an Anti-Reflection coating provides up to 3x more protection against Blue- violet light than standard prescription lenses helping maintain eyesight for the long term. A major improvement with this technology is that the lens appears clear and is aesthetically pleasing.

All humans have an internal circadian clock, more commonly known as a body clock that regulates sleep/ wake cycles. During the day, blue light from the sun (along with other spectrums) suppress melatonin production causing us to form an alert and awake state. Melatonin is a hormone secreted by the pineal gland and causes us to feel sleepy and prepares our bodies for a deep and healthy sleep. The issue of our modern day lives is that we are being bombarded with blue light emitted from electronic devices such as smart phones, tablets, HD televisions and computer screens, not only during the day, but at night when our bodies should naturally be producing melatonin in readiness for refreshing sleep. Our bodies need a break from the continual exposure to blue light. Depriving our bodies of the correct doses of melatonin may make us more susceptible to diseases such as neurological disease, heart disease, anxiety, depression and obesity.

Studies have shown that wearing lenses with a blue filter has a major positive impact on producing deeper, more restorative sleep and correcting body clocks for the long term.
